Lucy SNAPE and William SIMMONDS

Post I made at the ancestry.com forum. My ancestor Annie SNAPE came to Australia with her sister Lucy in 1883 - they were born in Burslem, Staffordshire. Lucy married William SIMMONDS in 1884, and it appears she followed him (the family story was that the girls followed two brothers) and his brother Ebenezer, as described below.

Seeking information on the descendents of William Sidney SIMMONDS, born abt 1852 Winterbourne, Gloucestershire, England. In 1861 he is living with his father William and mother Harriet, and brothers Ebenezer and Herbert in Gloucestershire.

He was living in 1881 in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England, in the home on John Snape and family, and must have sailed for Australia shortly afterwards as he married John Snape's daughter Lucy in Sydney in 1884. Lucy herself arrived in Sydney with her sister Annue in 1883 on the Illawarra. The anecdotal story in my family is that Lucy and Annie sailed to Australia to follow two brothers.

William and Lucy lived at 18 Thomas St, Ashfield (Sands Directories and NSW Electoral Roll for 1903), and William's occupation in Australia was that of cooper. The 1903 Electoral Roll also reveals that William is living next door to his brother Ebenezer (and wife Elizabeth Britton - they married in Gloucestershire in 1882), at 20 Thomas St Ashfield!

William Sidney SIMMONDS and Lucy nee Snape appear to have had the following children:

William Albert SIMMONDS, 1884-1955
Edith M SIMMONDS, 1886-?
John E SIMMONDS, 1888-1889
Grace SIMMONDS, 1890-1962
Emma A SIMMONDS, 1892-?
Sydney Charles SIMMONDS, 1895-1936
Lucy M SIMMONDS, 1903-?

NSW State Archives don't have William and Ebenezer SIMMONDS arriving in Ausrtalia. Any information about their descendents or the SIMMONDS family would be greatly appreciated.

William died in 1917 in Ashfield, and Lucy in 1946 in Burwood NSW.
