Age 78 yrs.
Before this headstone, we knew of three children of William MOLONEY and his wife Mary nee RYAN, of Dromalty/Drumalty in Limerick.
1. John MOLONEY (1841 - 1912). Lots of evidence including a short autobiographical note, teaching application, assisted immigration record, marriage and death certificates. Came to NSW in 1864, where he married Ellen MEYRICK/MERRICK of Tower Hill/Tuogh, adjacent to Dromalty. Teacher, lived mainly in Redfern, but also taught afield at various points in his career.
2.William MOLONEY (1846 - ?). The only information we have comes from research that Tom Element engaged. The baptism of William appears in the records for the Roman Catholic parish of Cappamore (in which Dromalty lies). William was baptised n 4th May 1846, parents William and Mary MOLONEY, and godparents Patrick MOLONEY and Mary MCKNIGHT. It is not clear if MCKNIGHT is a maiden name and the godparents were married. All other children before 1846 predate parish records.
3. Ellen MOLONEY (abt 1848 - 1911). Identified initially from assisted immigration records when she arrived in Australia in 1868. Married George TALLANT in 1873 in Sydney and had a number of children. Lived in Darlinghurst (next to Redfern) and died in 1911.
Now we can add an older son, Patrick MOLONEY (abt 1833 - 1858), based on the headstone data above. Given the date of birth, it is more than likely that William and Mary MOLONEY of Dromalty had other children also.

What a lucky find for your research!
Matt,
Would you know if any of Mary Ryan Maloney's descendants have taken DNA genealogy tests? I would love to compare tests. These Ryans are so elusive that DNA is the only way to advance with them.
I have a DNA test on ancestry.com.
Prue Moloney
